Walter Dunham Obituary

Walter Curtis Dunham “Buck”, age 70 of Scotland, went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2021 surrounded by his 3 girls. He was born on December 31, 1950 in Scotland, Arkansas to Paul and Oma Dunham. He married the love of his life, Karen Ann Coats Dunham, on August 8, 1973 in California. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before the good Lord called Karen home in December 2020.

Walter, also known as Puckett and Poppy, worked many hours at his sawmill alongside his father and Karen. He also spent a short time working for Arkansas Game and Fish as a Game Warden. After realizing he needed a better income to provide for his family, he went to work offshore working on barges in the US and other countries.  During this time, he also managed a farm, continued to sawmill, and enjoyed various camping trips with his family when his work schedule would allow.  After around 30 years of traveling, Buck gave up working offshore to finally be able to be home and spend all his days and nights with Karen. This allowed him to spend time with his grandkids and be able to attend all the special days he had missed out on over the years while he worked to provide for his family. In the time after retiring from offshore, he and Karen worked alongside each other running their own business, Dunham’s Gas and Grocery. When not working, which was a rare occasion, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family.  He also enjoyed going to the casinos. He had a loving heart and sense of humor that kept those around him laughing. His quietness was sometimes mistaken for shyness which allowed him to pull some of the best practical jokes on those around him. He was always up for a good laugh and would help anyone that needed it.

The last year was hard on him as he tried to recover from a fall that impaired his mobility and progressed his alzheimers. Throughout his diminishing health, he continued to have a loving spirit and continued to laugh daily providing his caregivers with entertainment. His nieces (Jessica Perry, Brandie Dunham and Amber Thurman) and son-in-laws (Jay, Bill and Steven) helped provide his care that allowed him to remain in his home until his passing. Since December, he was provided the best care through Hospice Home Care. The family is forever grateful for the care and friendships that were made during this time. They truly had compassionate hearts and daddy looked forward to their visits.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Shellie Lowder (Steven), Becky Haines (Bill), April Hagans (Jay); 1 brother, Troy Dunham (Barbara); 1 sister Reba Ramsey (Don); and a host of grandkids that he adored! He has a wealth of friends, nieces and nephews that will also cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Grover Dunham (Helen) and Marie Ramsey.
