Marian Anna Holmes Bales was born on August 2, 1925 to Sydney V. Holmes and Emma Klug Holmes in Lee County, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the age of 99 years at Ozark Health Nursing Center in Clinton.
Marian was retired from Arkansas Telephone Company in Clinton and was a faithful member of First General Baptist Church. She remained very active after retirement. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and a member of the Ozark Mountain Wahines, a hula dancing group, traveling to Hawaii with them on at least one occasion. In addition to hula, Marian enjoyed country and line dancing with her friends. She was active in Silver Sneakers for many years and was a familiar figure in her neighborhood as she walked for several miles every week as long as her health allowed.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Dale E. Bales; stepdaughter, Nancy Schmitt; brothers Francis, Osborn, Donald, and Stanley Holmes; sisters Ruby Sharp and Shirley Avery.
Marian is survived by her sisters, Faye Giberson of Illinois and Ruth Heston of Iowa. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, her church family and many friends.
Many thanks to Ozark Health Nursing Center for the love and care Marian was given over the last year.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 3 at 2 p.m. at First General Baptist Church in Clinton.
