James Lee (Jim) Barney, 90, died at Ozark Health Center on June 18, 2023. He was born September 12, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, the son of James and Mildred Barney. Jim enlisted in the Navy his senior year in high school. He served in the Navy four years during the Korean War. He met Marian Gillenwater in 1958 and married her November 25, 1959. They celebrated 63 years of marriage last November.
Jim worked a number of different jobs: a salesman and later manager at Pepsi Cola, a maintenance worker at the Excelsior Springs School District, and a missionary in Oaxaca, Mexico and in Mission, Texas. He was proudest of his “job” as a dad to his biological children and many foster children. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and camping with the family. If he wasn’t at the lake, you could find him watching the Mizzou Tigers, KC Chiefs, or the KC Royals. Jim accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord when he was 34 years old. He served in his local church of Pisgah Baptist in Excelsior Springs, MO, and these past two years was a member of Westside FBC Greers Ferry.
He is survived by his wife Marian Barney, son Donald Barney (Carla), daughter Anna Machelle Waters (Mark), son Marshall Barney (Bridgett), and son Tim Barney. He is also survived by several foster children: Laura Sue Reynolds (Keith), Barbra Parker (Doug), Dixie Blevins (Todd), Donna Gaunt (Steve), and Patrick Kitchell (Angela). He has 27 wonderful grandchildren, and many great grandchildren!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the service following at 10:30 a.m. at the West Side First Baptist Church, 7025 Greer's Ferry Rd, Greer's Ferry.
