Herbert Reamey III "Kirk" Obituary

Herbert Kirkland Reamey III, “Kirk,” peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on April 9, 2026. Kirk was born in Little Rock, AR on September 10, 1945, to Herbert K. Reamey Jr. and Dorothy Jane Thompson. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Conie Sue Humphreys, and together they raised their children, filled their home with love and laughter, and traveled the world.

Kirk loved his family with a passion and a unique sense of humor. He was an Eagle Scout, and a man of integrity, loyalty, and giving spirit. He loved the people he served and respected those around him.

Kirk was a birder and loved the outdoors and the quiet lessons found in nature. He was a logophile and enjoyed the solitude found in a good book. In high school, he started distance running and continued this endeavor for over 60 years competing in marathons and races throughout his lifetime. He also enjoyed flyfishing, scuba, hunting, playing the guitar, and writing funny songs for, and about, his family and staff. He loved music and participated in the Van Buren Community Band as well as church choirs everywhere he lived. In San Antonio, he was a member of the Beethoven Mannerchor, the oldest singing group west of the Mississippi.

Colonel Kirk Reamey was raised in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and attended Henderson State University on a trumpet scholarship. In college, he joined the brotherhood of Sigma Phi Epsilon and maintained and cherished those life-long friendships. As far back as the American Revolutionary War, every generation of the Reamey family has had a soldier, and Kirk was no exception. During the Vietnam war, all male students were required to participate in ROTC, and upon graduation, Kirk was commissioned 2nd Lt., Medical Service Corp, U.S. Army. He completed the Battalion Surgeon’s Assistant course, and left for Vietnam in December 1968, where he earned his Combat Medical Badge as a field medic with the 1st/18th Infantry, First Infantry Division.

Returning from Vietnam, he entered the Army Baylor Program, and in 1980, he graduated from Baylor University with a master’s degree in healthcare administration, and became a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). In the military, he held Chief Administrator positions at Schofield Barracks, HI; 121 Hospital, Korea; Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning, GA; and Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX. Kirk was the Commander of the 41st Combat Support Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. At the age of 47, he earned his Parachutist badge. Other awards include: Order of Military Medical Merit, Expert Field Medical Badge, Combat Medical Badge. Decorations include, but not limited to: the Legion of Merit (3rd award), Bronze Star (3rd award), Meritorious Service Medal (6th award), and Army Commendation Medal (3rd award).

After 30 years of active military service, Kirk became the Hospital Administrator in Magnolia and in Clinton, Arkansas. He was a board member of the Arkansas Hospital Association Board and served as a delegate on the Regional Policy Board 7 of the American Hospital Association.

Kirk is survived by his loving wife Conie Humphreys Reamey of 59 yrs, their daughters Lea Ann Reamey (John) Kinkead, Dana Lynn Reamey (Roger) Darr, and son Douglas Kirkland (Cristin) Reamey. He has eight grandchildren: Joseph, Johnny, Jordan, James, Emma-Jean, Samantha, Riley, Taylor, and Pamela. He has three great grandchildren: Lily, Olivia, and Aurora. He is also survived by his brother Jack and Carol Reamey and his sister Ann and Larry McCraw and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
