Gaylon Helton, known to friends and family as "Gator," was born on April 22, 1940, in Greene County Mississippi. He passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2026.
Gator split his schooling between Mississippi and Indiana. His father moved the family to Indiana to provide a better living in northwest Indiana. Gator retired from working in the steel industry and moved to Shirley, Arkansas, to enjoy the milder climate. He loved living in the country and did not miss the big town at all.
Gator made many friends and enjoyed meeting them for coffee and donuts a couple times a week. He was always available to offer a helping hand to family and others. He will be sorely missed.
Gator is survived by his wife, Judy, and his children, James, Ginger, Anthony and Michael. He has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Ephie Helton, and 2 brothers, Carey and Douglas, Jr.
There will not be a memorial service but a Celebration of Life may be held during the summer. Donations can be made to Carti, Little Rock, or Blood Cancer United in his memory.
