Cynthia (Cindy) Calaway Wellenberger, 69, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas was born September 14, 1952 in Warren, Arkansas to James and Nell Calaway. She was promoted to heaven on August 2, 2022. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Stacia.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul, son Chuck and his wife Misti, and two precious granddaughters, Addison and Brinkley; brothers Jim (Susan), John (Jo), and Greg (Edie); many nieces and nephews who will always remember their fun Aunt Cindy, and a large extended family as well as many dear, dear friends.
Cindy graduated from Monticello, Arkansas High School in 1970 and received a music scholarship from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She and Paul were married in their first semester of college. Cindy and Paul went to Fayetteville where she worked to help Paul get through school and they started a family. After Chuck and Stacia were born and old enough for day care, Cindy went back to school and graduated as a Registered Nurse from El Centro College in Dallas. She spent the first few years working as a hospital nurse and then in a doctor’s office. She eventually ended up as a Registered Nurse in the Allen, Texas Independent School District, where she worked 15 years. It was there that she touched the lives of students and faculty members. So many have reached out to her since her illness with stories of the great positive impact she had on their lives. In 2000, Paul and Cindy moved to Fairfield Bay. Soon after joining the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, she started singing Southern Gospel Music with Doyle Scroggins, Wilba Thompson, and eventually Bob Thompson. She loved participating in the Sounds of Praise gospel group with them. They traveled throughout the area to spread God’s word.
Cindy enjoyed serving the community through her role in various capacities including as the former Mayor’s wife and her membership in the First Baptist Church. She considered it an honor and a privilege to serve on the Board of Directors of the Ozark Medical Center with the outstanding team of professionals throughout the hospital.
Cindy could always fill a room with joy and happiness. Even while dealing with terminal cancer for three years, Cindy remained positive and joyful. Her faith never wavered. Though she leaves a huge hole in many hearts, she no longer has cancer or illness and is enjoying the rewards of her life well lived. We will celebrate her life and enter her into the grave, but rest assured, she is already in heaven.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with services following at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with Brother Gene Tanner and Chuck Wellenberger officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery.
